Requirements For Registration
This session is for staff who have current CPI certification. This session is just a refresher and you will not be recertified after completing this session.

Come join us for three free online after-school sessions with one of POPEY’s newest Teacher Consultants – Megan Zeni. The series starts this February, and explores Ministry resources that support learning in the early years. Each workshop runs from 4:15 – 5:15 MST.

Session One: Monday, February 3, 2025
British Columbia’s Early Learning Framework
The Early Learning Framework (ELF) offers practical guidance and pedagogical clarity for educators working with young children aged birth to eight in our province. This session will provide an overview of the ELF and offer guiding principles that can inform our work with young children.

Session Two: Monday, February 24, 2025
Play Today
Play Today is a handbook that serves as a supporting document to the Early Learning Framework (ELF). This session will review the importance of play in all aspects of child development, with practical exemplars of how play can be supported in early learning environments.

Session Three: Monday, March 3, 2025
Learning in the Primary Years
Learning in the Primary Years is a companion document specifically for K-3 teachers offering pedagogical foundations for learning alongside relational teaching practices. This session will highlight the importance of pedagogical choices and how these dynamic decisions influence the ways in which children experience curricular learning along a continuum of play.

Are you looking to improve your literacy instruction? Are you wondering how to plan for language arts in a way that empowers student readers and writers? Join Karen Filewych for 7 professional development sessions throughout the 2024-2025 school year. These ongoing sessions will provide practical strategies and opportunities to ask questions about the teaching of literacy. Karen will tailor the sessions to meet the needs of participants. We are looking for a cohort of 10-15 teachers.

First session will be on September 18th 1-3 pm with TTOC coverage provided.  All other dates and information can be found on the poster and/or link below.

Free Training Course for EAs!

INCLUSIVE EDUCATION & UNDERSTANDING BEHAVIOUR The Support Staff Education Committee (SSEC) is pleased to provide access to the redeveloped Education Assistant (EA) training course called: Inclusive Education & Understanding Behaviour. This 4.5-hour course is intended to provide professional development opportunities for EAs working to support complex learners. The course provides participants with guided learning activities, knowledge checks, opportunities for reflection and assessment linked to the following:

• The evolution of inclusive education.

• Impact of inclusive education on students with differing needs and abilities.

• Effective practices and characteristics of inclusive education

• Diverse needs of students in the classroom • Guiding Principles

• Universal Design for Learning (UDL)

• Inclusive Education Plans (IEP)

• Approaches, elements, and outcomes of positive behaviour support.

• Key components of the functional assessment process.

• Instructional practices and intervention strategies to promote behavioural success of students.

• Roles and responsibilities of an Education Assistant in the development of positive behaviour support plans.

• Implementing visual supports, prompts and intervention plans to support students.

• Monitoring and evaluating the types of response interventions.

• Effective practices and strategies for managing challenging behaviour.
